My name is Jennifer Mathis, and I live in Houston.
The reason for the title of this blog is that I am trying to become a self-taught artist. Armed only with stubbornness, the Intarweb, and a begrudging willingness to do things over and over again, I take on new art projects, sometimes often with disastrous results. Each time I screw something up, the cost comes to roughly $20 in art supplies- sometimes more. I keep trying anyway.
And then I decided to share it with the blogosphere.
My other hobbies include eating, dreaming up fantasy careers to escape a 40-year-sentence as an architect; and being fantastically uncoordinated. Sporadically, I draw a webcomic, and make silly T-shirts. Sometimes I paint and draw.
The name “Jen Xer” is a nod to my membership in Generation X (I was born in ‘74, so I just barely squeaked by). Unfortunately, that’s just the name of my website/ pseudo-artist persona; I am simply not cool enough to call myself that seriously and pull it off.
According to Wikipedia,
Generation X is generally marked by its lack of optimism for the future, nihilism, cynicism, skepticism, alienation, and mistrust in traditional values.
Yep, that sounds about right.
